How did you start with your first product – kekendo 1-3?

First we had a meeting, talked about DIGILAB Brennerei 4.0 and looked at the rooms, because Anselm wanted us to create something for DIGILAB. We asked questions like: What is DIGILAB and what do you do at DIGILAB?

2

What did you think in the first moment?

We thought that DIGILAB is a “Betrieb”, an office to work.

3

How did you proceed? What questions did you ask yourself during the development?

First we wrote something about DIGILAB, for example what the differences are between humans and computers. After that, we discussed how to build something without a computer. We talked about our culture and how we built things without a computer. Anselm was very happy about it.

Then, what should we build for DIGILAB? We asked ourselves what the furniture should look like, for example triangle or cuboid or square. We collected our ideas and then built the furniture.

4

Do people need the computer?

We had different ideas. Some of us said people need computers and others said no, we do not need computers. I say we need computers because things are easy with computers, e.g. sending SMS and e-mail.

5

How long have you been working on the development of the furniture?

We started in February (2018) and worked on the development until the end of April.

6

What can people do with kekendo 1-3? Anything they cannot do with other furniture?

With kekendo furniture you can work while standing upright when you are tired. You can push it, you can not push other furniture. People can use the furniture to plan, produce, collect ideas and have fun.

7

How would you use kekendo 1-3? What is your opinion?

We (Kebba, Abdi and Essa – also trainees) would use kekendo for computers. In our opinion, computers and people are perfect together.

8

How was the collaboration?

Working together is great for me because there are many opinions and lots of ideas. Every idea is important to us. Also Essa and Abdi think that collaboration is very good. If something is difficult, we ask together. If there is a problem, we are looking for a solution.

9

How did the name come up? What does it mean?

I thought to myself, weserholz is a team that should never give up. That‘s how this idea came to me: kekendo.

Kekendo means “never give up” in Mandinka. If you want to reach your goals, you should never give up.

Pape Samba Ndiaye (former team member) spoke with the name giver of the kekendo-series, >> Trainee Kebba Mboge
